Closing the gap in HPP care is an educational initiative that aims to foster a better understanding of the challenges in diagnosing and managing patients with hypophosphatasia (HPP) and how to overcome them, based on global practical experience sharing among healthcare professionals across different specialties.
A panel of experts from multidisciplinary perspectives shared their experience with HPP by discussing patient cases that address critical areas in HPP care. Our experts urge viewers to rethink their approach in diagnosing and/or managing HPP by highlighting misconceptions in HPP care.Some of the misconceptions being addressed in the Closing the gap in HPP care programme include:
HPP is characterised by heterogeneous manifestations, including reduced bone mineralisation, muscle weakness, neurologic symptoms, fatigue and pain that may occur at any age and result in cumulative morbidity.2,4 Therefore, these educational videos aim to help physicians across different specialties consider HPP symptoms. The aim is for HPP to be recognised and diagnosed earlier, which means a management plan can be put in place sooner, reducing the impact of long-term effects of HPP due to delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis.
